California State Prison Records
California State Prison, Solano, also called CSP-Solano or SOL, is operated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It is a state prison, not a Solano County jail, city jail, or sheriff's detention facility. Its population is sentenced male CDCR prisoners. The facility is part of the Vacaville prison cluster, but it is administratively distinct from California Medical Facility.
CDCR describes CSP-Solano as a Level II/III institution. Research material lists four separate semi-autonomous facilities, a 125-bed Administrative Segregation Unit, and a 16-bed Correctional Treatment Center. Those features matter for inmate lookup because the public search may show the institution while more specific housing details can be limited. Families should confirm the current location through CIRIS before planning mail, visiting, or money steps. A transfer within CDCR can make older notes or court paperwork stale.
State prison rule: CSP-Solano is searched through CDCR CIRIS, not the Solano County Sheriff in-custody roster.
California State Prison Population
Population figures for CSP-Solano need careful reading because CDCR sources use more than one capacity figure. The CDCR Adult Institutions appendix listed a 1,904 design capacity in May 2026. CDCR TPOP population tables used a 2,594 design capacity for occupancy calculations. The March 25, 2026 TPOP count reported 3,040 people at CSP-Solano, or 117.2 percent occupied against the TPOP design figure. A July 1, 2025 monthly count was higher, with 3,595 people reported at 138.6 percent of the TPOP capacity figure.

CSP-Solano Inmate Search
Use CDCR CIRIS for California State Prison, Solano custody. CIRIS is the statewide public locator for California prisons. It is different from a county jail roster, which tracks people in local custody after arrest or while serving a local sentence. A person arrested in Solano County may start in a sheriff's facility in Fairfield, but after state sentencing and CDCR placement, the county roster is no longer the right lookup tool. For a broader county custody search before state transfer, the jail inmate records page explains the county roster path.
- Open CIRIS and search by CDCR number when the number is available.
- If the CDCR number is not known, search by last name and narrow with first name, middle name, or age.
- Check the current location field for California State Prison, Solano, CSP-Solano, or SOL.
- Use the CDCR number and institution name for visiting, mail, and account questions.
| Lookup channel | Covers | Does not cover |
|---|---|---|
| CDCR CIRIS | Sentenced California state prisoners and current CDCR location | Certified court records or county jail bail details |
| Solano jail roster | Current county jail custody | Most people after transfer to CDCR |
| BOP locator | Federal prison custody since 1982 | California state prison custody |
| ICE ODLS | Current or recent immigration detention | Criminal court case records or CDCR placement |
California State Prison Contact
CSP-Solano publishes a main institutional address, a main phone number, and a prison mailing address. The prison's main phone should not be treated as a court clerk, county jail booking desk, or release-date guarantee. Use CIRIS first to confirm the person is in CDCR custody at this institution. Then use CDCR family resources and institution instructions for the topic involved.

California State Prison Visits
CSP-Solano visits follow CDCR visitation rules, not the Solano County jail video visiting rules. State prison visits require CDCR approval and scheduling. Visitors should use CDCR visitor information to review approval forms, scheduling options, dress rules, allowed property, institution notices, and current visit status. Local jail procedures such as iWebVisit registration do not apply to CSP-Solano.
| Visit issue | Correct source | Practical point |
|---|---|---|
| Approval | CDCR visitor process | A county jail visitor account does not approve a state prison visit. |
| Scheduling | CDCR and CSP-Solano instructions | Check the institution status before travel. |
| Visitor conduct | CDCR rules | Screening, dress, and property limits are state prison rules. |
| Housing impact | Institution confirmation | Administrative segregation, medical, or security status can affect visit access. |
Because CSP-Solano includes multiple semi-autonomous facilities and specialized units, a public location result alone may not answer every visit question. Confirm the current location, ask whether the person is eligible for visits, and check current CDCR instructions close to the planned date.
California State Prison Mail
Mail and money for CSP-Solano use CDCR channels. The county jail's Pigeonly non-legal mail process, iCare gift packages, and Solano jail TouchPay details are for county custody, not CDCR custody. Research material identifies the CSP-Solano mailing address as P.O. Box 4000 in Vacaville. Include the incarcerated person's name and CDCR number in mail. For deposits, use CDCR send-money instructions and current vendor rules rather than county jail pages.
| Service | Provider or detail |
|---|---|
| Inmate mail | P.O. Box 4000, Vacaville, CA 95696-4000 |
| Money deposits | Use CDCR send-money resources for current vendor options and rules. |
| Phone contact | CDCR phone and family resources apply, not Solano jail phone PIN rules. |
| County jail commissary | Not used for CSP-Solano prisoners. |
California State Prison Intake
CSP-Solano does not perform local arrest booking for Solano County police agencies. A local arrest usually moves through the county jail, bail process, prosecutor filing decision, and court case. If a person is convicted and sentenced to state prison, CDCR receives the person into state custody, classifies the person, and assigns an institution. That path explains why a name can disappear from a county jail roster while later appearing in CIRIS. It also explains why county booking data and prison housing data may not match in timing or terminology.
Solano County also has California Medical Facility in Vacaville. The two prisons are separate CDCR institutions. CSP-Solano opened in 1984 under the warden of California Medical Facility and then separated administratively in January 1992. Today, a CIRIS result should be read as the current CDCR location, not as proof that the sentencing court case began in Vacaville or that Solano County still controls the person.
CSP-Solano Programs
CDCR material describes CSP-Solano as a program-heavy prison. Prison Industry Authority operations include book bindery, laundry, metal fabrication, and optical work. Vocational programs include carpentry, fiber optics, masonry, building maintenance, office services and technology, computer literacy, residential electrical, and welding. Academic programs include Adult Basic Education, GED, literacy, college, and Voluntary Education Program options. Those program lists are relevant to families because they distinguish CSP-Solano from a short-term local jail focused on booking, court transport, and short stays.
The research also lists extensive ILTAG and self-help programs, religious groups, a Friends Outside visitor center, Family Liaison Services, and Parenting Inside Out. In 2025, CDCR published CSP-Solano rehabilitation and community-connection items involving Twinning Project basketball programming, a tennis clinic, and mural arts. CDCR also reported a September 2025 homicide investigation at CSP-Solano and a 2025 contraband roundup that included state institutions. Use those items as prison operations context, not as county jail news.
Note: Confirm current custody in CIRIS before mailing funds or traveling, because CDCR transfers can change the correct institution.
